Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis has been described as a "a state of mind enhanced
by mental and physical relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate
with our
conscious mind".
Hypnotherapy is a natural state of heightened awareness, where you are able
to open your mind to beneficial suggestions and where you can make use of your
imagination
to help make positive changes in your life. Everyone experience of the trance
state differently it is a unique experience, but the client is always in control.
In general a hypnotic trance is a pleasant, tranquil and relaxing experience.
While hypnotised you will be aware of all physical sensations around you, perhaps
even noticing sounds you wouldn't otherwise be aware of. When you are
fully aware again you may be able to recall everything that happened while
you were
in your trance, depending how deep your trance was.
It might be a deep trance or it might be a light. Whatever level you achieve
it's absolutely the right level for you at that moment. With hypnosis there's
no right or wrong way to experience a trance like state. When undergoing hypnotherapy,
clients are conscious and aware, but are open to the power of suggestion. They
cannot be induced to do or say anything against their will.
There are many forms of psychological therapy but hypnotherapy is distinctive
in its attempts to address the client's subconscious mind. In practice,
the hypnotherapist often (but not exclusively) requires the client to be in a
relaxed state, frequently enlists the power of the client's imagination
and may utilise a wide range of techniques to direct suggestions for beneficial
change. Regardless of the techniques employed, perhaps the most important thing
is that a client should expect to feel comfortable and relax, this is particular
important in hypnotherapy.
